The KCI Rotary Club honored Katie Rainey with the Paul Harris Fellow award at its membership meeting on June 26, 2019. Katie was recognized for her time spent the last several years volunteering in Guatemala with the Interact Club at St. Pius High School in Kansas City, Mo. This year she helped coordinate the entire trip and served as a group leader.

The Paul Harris Fellow award recognizes individuals for their volunteerism and substantial contributions to advancing Rotary's mission. The focus of the mission trip was to help students understand the poverty in the world and to show that each student can make a positive contribution by helping others in need. The main projects the students carried out included delivering "sick bags" to the elderly and infirmed; building stoves, chicken coops and concrete floors in homes; Painting classrooms and delivering 100 desks to a local school; and donating clothing and water filters to people who are poor. Congratulations to Katie on this well-deserved honor!  Pictured from left to right are Katie‚Äôs parents Laura and David Rainey, Katie Rainey and Rick Simon.
